Psycho Image Analysis 2

This screenshot is from the scene where Arbogast enters the Bates home. The scene is shot at a high angle looking down on the character as he walks up the stairs. The lighting used in this scene adds tension whilst Arbogast walks up the stairs and the dramatic music, parallel starts when Norman runs out from the bedroom dressed in his mum’s clothes wielding a knife. This scene is followed by a collision cut, moving from the slow build-up to a quick sequence of shots for the murder scene of Arbogast with Norman stabbing his face.

                This scene uses a lot of montage because Hitchcock was a fan on montage films so he placed them in his own. The scene starts with slow movement and then cuts in to a fast montage to shock the audience whilst Arbogast is being killed.
