Saw 2 Poster Analysis

Saw 2 is an American/Canadian horror film released in 2005.
The main image in this picture is not the killer or a victim in this film but it is the puppet made by the killer. The producers have chosen to use the puppet to emphasise that he is used to hide the killer in the movie so he is not in the game.
They only use the head of the puppet in this poster for people to remember his face so you know there is going to be danger when he is around. The puppet takes up at least half of the poster to show its importance in this movie. The puppet has been angled in a position so that it is looking down and grinning at the title to show that is has a lot of power in the film.
The majority of this poster uses black and red to show the death and danger of the film. White is used for the title to make it stand out over the background image. A lot of red is used in this poster to show the colour of blood and so it catches the viewer’s eye.
The font used for the main title is written in a way so it looks like someone has scratched it into something. They have used this title to show that there is going to be some pain/torture in this film and people are going to try and escape. To show that this movie is the 2nd film in this series, they have used 2 dirty/bruised fingers to show the pain that someone is going to endure throughout this film. The fingers look like they are from a female which tells us that a woman is going to end up in pain or possibly dead which will appeal to a male target audience.
The tagline ‘oh yes… there will be blood.’ Tells us that this movie is going to be gory and there will be a lot of pain or deaths throughout the movie to appeal with the male target audience. This could also tell us that there will be a character in this film that enjoys the sight of torture and blood.
In conclusion, this film is almost certainly aimed at a male target audience who like to watch people in pain or being tortured.
